This position can be remote. Remote candidates MUST RESIDE IN VIRGINIA. JOB SUMMARY The Patient Account Specialist will be the liaison between the patients and the patient accounting office. This position is responsible for answering billing inquiries from, patients and office staff at all locations and assisting the medical secretaries with various aspects of the billing cycle. Remote Telework -- Eligible after probation period ends ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND OBJECTIVES Job-Specific Competencies: Responds to telephone and direct patient inquiries relating to the patient accounts. Timely follow up on requests to offices and to resolution for the patients Responds to telephone or written inquiries from attorneys or insurance companies -- except for surgeries which are passed on to the billers. Correspondence should not be more than a week old then notification to supervisor is required. Establishes payment plans for patients Research Refund requests. Rush refunds should be done on the same day and regular refunds are to be processed in two weeks of receipt. Take proper action on all accounts including providing detail notes on all accounts reviewed and worked. Provide support on special projects or additional duties as needed BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS Education: High school diploma required; some college preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The ideal patient account specialist candidate must work well with other employees, provide excellent customer service, and has a positive attitude and is a quick learner. Strong analytical skills and process oriented Able to prioritize and operate proactively Strong verbal and written communication skills Proficiency with medical terminology Excellent organizational and time management skills Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Highly accurate data entry skills with strong attention to detail Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information Knowledge of ICD-9, HCPCS CPT Codes Knowledge of physician billing and/or collections Knowledge of insurance/managed care billing procedures Knowledge of basic office equipment, Microsoft Office, and practice management systems Experience: 2-3 years of medical billing experience with progressive responsibility OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE No known exposure.
