Critically, we also reduce costs, energy consumption and emissions.The role reports to the Process Automation Energy Industry Southeast Regional Service Manager. As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of ABB distributed control system (800xA and Symphony) at ABB customer facilities (such as refineries, water systems, power generation units) under general supervision. This includes performing preventive and corrective maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of proprietary ABB hardware and software, as well as assisting with any projects, upgrades, new installations and advanced services for the technician's assigned customer or region. This individual will be required to work independently or as part of a small site team to provide service for customers of ABB distributed control solutions. Your responsibilities Maintain ABB's suite of distributed control system (DCS) hardware and software. Handle customer questions about the state of the ABB system. Handle customer service related issues while fostering the customer relationship and working to solve technical problems on-site. Deal directly with, and communicate effectively with plant operators, plant management, 3rd party vendors, and other ABB personnel in support of service operations. Troubleshoot and repair equipment applying own technical knowledge and experience to resolve problems. Training on ABB products and services will be provided; however, a basic understanding of computer networks, DCS systems (architecture, project engineering and HMI/graphic creation) is required in order for the training to be beneficial. Accurately document the work that is performed at a customer facility and/or project staging area. Professionally document work completed on periodic preventive maintenance as well as intermittent corrective maintenance tasks. When required, play an active role in various projects such as upgrades, new installations, or new functionality for customers. Coordinate work with other groups to ensure meeting commitments. Attend and complete the ABB University P.E.A.K. Training Program where you will receive formal classroom training, be assigned a mentor, complete field module assignments and support commissioning activity. Your background Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree with 0 years of professional work experience OR High school diploma with 3 years of DCS/PLC experience in similar field. Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 1 year of professional work experience. Knowing how to troubleshoot and install DCS systems, knowledge of ABB's Harmony/Symphony is a plus.
