Skills - Legal Drafting The Southern District of West Virginia is seeking outstanding candidates for the United States Attorney's Capital District Legal Scholar Internship Program. The program offers a unique and challenging experience for highly motivated law students and an opportunity to work on some of the most significant, complex and visible cases being litigated today. Working with Assistant U.S. Attorneys and other staff, you will be part of a dedicated team helping to enforce federal criminal and civil laws that protect life, liberty, and property of citizens. Typical assignments for law student interns involve all facets of case preparation including: researching legal issues; drafting/writing motions, responses, and various pleadings; providing trial support; interviewing witnesses; and assembling exhibits for trial. Interns will have extensive opportunities to attend trials, hearings, meetings, and other legal proceedings, as well as learn about the federal system and law enforcement at the federal, state and local levels. Qualifications: First-year (second semester) and second-year law students are eligible to. Law school graduates are not eligible for summer positions. Students must be a U.S. citizen and will be subject to a security background investigation due to the sensitive nature of the work performed by the office. You will be subject to confidentiality obligations. Minimum Weeks Work Required: 7-10 weeks during the summer of 2020 Salary: Positions are uncompensated volunteer positions. Academic credit may be given only if available/arranged by the student through the law school. Travel: Travel for work related reasons may periodically be required.
