They address provider shortages, surges in patient volume, seasonal demands, and even cover for clinicians who are out on leave. While locum tenens and travel nursing sound similar, they have key differences. Travel nurses are W-2 employees who can receive benefits and typically work a full-time schedule for at least 13 weeks. Locum tenens clinicians are 1099 independent contractors.
