Job Description:
Position Overview: The Department of Developmental Disabilities
is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse
(LPN) to join our healthcare team. As an LPN within our department,
you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and
support to individuals with developmental disabilities. Your
expertise and commitment will contribute to improving the overall
health and well-being of our clients. Responsibilities: Patient
Care: Provide direct nursing care to individuals with developmental
disabilities in accordance with established protocols, including
but not limited to administering medications, monitoring vital
signs, and assisting with activities of daily living. Assessment
and Documentation: Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients'
health conditions and document findings accurately and timely in
electronic medical records. Update care plans as necessary to
ensure individualized care. Medication Management: Administer
medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers,
ensuring proper dosage, route, and timing. Monitor and record any
adverse reactions or side effects. Health Education: Educate
individuals and their caregivers about their health conditions,
treatment plans, and preventive measures. Provide guidance on
maintaining a healthy lifestyle and addressing specific healthcare
needs. Collaboration: Work closely with interdisciplinary teams,
including physicians, registered nurses, therapists, and support
staff, to coordinate and implement comprehensive care plans that
address physical, emotional, and developmental needs. Emergency
Response: Respond efficiently and effectively to medical
emergencies, including assessing the situation, initiating
appropriate interventions, and communicating with medical
professionals as necessary. Compliance: Ensure compliance with all
applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies,
including maintaining confidentiality of patient information and
adhering to infection control protocols. Quality Improvement:
Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives to enhance
the care and services provided to individuals with developmental
disabilities. Qualifications: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
License: Current and valid LPN license in the state. CPR and Basic
Life Support (BLS) Certification: Certification in CPR and BLS for
healthcare providers. Experience: Prior experience in healthcare,
preferably in a setting that involves caring for individuals with
developmental disabilities. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal
and written communication skills with the ability to interact
effectively with individuals, families, and multidisciplinary
teams. Compassion and Empathy: Strong commitment to providing
compassionate care and advocating for the unique needs of
individuals with developmental disabilities. Problem-Solving:
Ability to assess situations, think critically, and make informed
decisions in high-pressure situations. Team Player: Willingness to
collaborate with a diverse team of healthcare professionals to
provide comprehensive care. Computer Skills: Proficiency in
electronic medical record systems and basic computer applications.
Working Conditions: This position may require occasional evening or
weekend shifts. LPNs may need to assist individuals with mobility
and physical support as needed. Adherence to infection control
measures and personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential.
