The Accounting Manager is responsible for the supervision and
leadership of the Accounting Department under the direction of the
Controller and CFO. The Accounting Manager will play a key
leadership role in the finance department, supporting team
development and driving process improvements to maintain the
agency's financial health.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervision and Team Management:
Lead, mentor, and supervise the finance team, including
accountants, payroll staff, and accounts payable/receivable
personnel.
Assign and oversee daily tasks, ensuring accuracy and timely
completion of all financial processes.
Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive
feedback, and identify professional development opportunities for
staff.
Train team members on new accounting practices, compliance
requirements, and software tools to improve overall departmental
performance.
Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment, ensuring
clear communication and resolving any issues within the
department.
Ensure cross-training of staff to cover critical accounting
functions, maintaining continuity in case of absences or role
changes.
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Assist Controller and CFO in Month End Close
Assist in Balancing and Accounts and Bank Reconciliations
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
Oversee the accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring
accurate processing of payments, billing, and collections.
Ensure that receivables are collected promptly and monitor any
overdue accounts, providing direction to the team on follow-up
actions.
Maintain strong relationships with vendors and external partners to
ensure effective financial coordination and payment processes.
Payroll Management:
Audit the payroll process, manage taxes, benefits, and wage
compliance.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
required. Master's degree or Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
certification is preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at
least 2-3 years in a supervisory or management role.
Experience in healthcare, nonprofit, or behavioral health finance
is preferred.
Demonstrated experience managing teams and improving financial
processes.
Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to
manage, motivate, and develop a team.
Deep understanding of accounting principles (GAAP), financial
reporting, and budgeting.
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability
to manage multiple priorities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration
with staff, leadership, and external partners.
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or
similar) and Microsoft Excel.
Work Environment:
Primarily office-based, with the potential for occasional remote
work or travel to satellite offices or agency events as needed.
May require participation in cross-functional meetings and agency
leadership discussions.
