Job Description:

DescriptionSubstation Protection and Control Engineer will performs all aspects of conventional design engineering and analysis, and is familiar with a variety of engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.
Role and responsibilities:

• 
  
• Acts as Lead Engineer over protection & controls projects for medium to high voltage utility substations.
  
• Exhibits knowledge in electro-mechanical relays, microprocessor-based relays and other related protection & controls topics.
  
• Develops engineering cost estimates for proposals.
  
• Prepares equipment specifications and assists in bid evaluations and procurement recommendations.
  
• Development of protection & control design submittals including bill of materials, one-line diagrams, AC three-line diagrams, DC schematics, communication diagrams, SCADA integration, cabling, wiring, and panel front views.
  
• Familiar with physical layouts of major equipment and verification of phasing.
  
• Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
  
• Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work.
  
• Prepares a variety of engineering deliverables such as contract documents, project documents, and studies with little to no supervision.
  
• Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  
• Demonstrates understanding of project phases and schedules as it pertains to engineering production and deliverables.
  
• Actively seeks to understand client interests and drivers through project related client contact and through interaction and communication with project management.
  
• Continues to learn and develop knowledge and skills in departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and Commonwealth Associates policies and procedures. Applies this knowledge to assigned tasks.
  
• Applies developed understanding of and compliance with Commonwealth Associates quality program to associated tasks.
  
• Mentors staff of less experienced engineers and designers.
  
  Qualifications:
  Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program required. Professional Engineer (PE) license required. At least three years of protection and control experience demonstrating continuous growth and knowledge expansion, delivering 3-5 multifaceted projects simultaneously, and overseeing technical aspects of projects. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States.
